Our precious new devices came in a shiny box, perfectly clean, as if nobody’s ever touched them. But somebody had to make them, right? If you look beyond the flawless surface, you’ll find a whole city of dissatisfied workers, living in extreme conditions inside a so-called China’s iPhone City, Zhengzhou, where iPhone factory Foxconn is located.
Lung cancer remains the #1 deadliest cancer in the world, accounting for 1 in 5 deaths caused by cancer. Recent data shows that the number of new lung cancer cases, as well as the number of lung cancer deaths, has been in continuous decline. This is primarily due to more people deciding to quit smoking but also because of new findings regarding early detection and treatment. A new report published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in January 2023 proved that deep learning models could be used to predict risk from lung cancer. One model in particular, called Sybil. This means that healthy people, as well as non-smokers, could undergo this test. When it does predict high risk, it can signal the specific at-risk region rather than being equally spread over the entire thorax.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Samsung representatives revealed that this tech and electronics industry giant is making preparations for the Samsung metaverse. This isn’t exactly a surprise because virtual reality and metaverse are attractive industries, with many companies finding a way to get their share of the profit.
The president and director of Samsung’s mobile experience division corroborated that Samsung is indeed making extended reality hardware. However, it’s inconclusive when the product will be seen on the shelves. It’s also too early to know other details about the products, such as the most crucial features or the price tag.
Still, what’s familiar to the public is that Samsung partnered with Qualcomm, a semiconductor and software company that will be in charge of the hardware’s chipset. And when trying to determine the platform they wanted to work with, the company opted for Google. Both companies confirmed their excitement about collaboration with Samsung and are hoping to deliver something new and revolutionary to the VR scene.
Not all heroes wear capes, but they are all recognized in times of trouble. This time, crypto communities across the world are among the greatest heroes. Following the “deadliest in the decade” earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday morning, crypto companies rushed to offer help to the victims.
The last quarter of 2022 wasn’t kind to Reality Labs, as the company recorded an operating loss of $4.3 billion. The last quarterly financial report for 2022 was like a cherry on top of the cake, except the cherry in this case is a multi-billion-dollar loss, and so is the cake.
In other words, 2022 was a disastrous year for Reality Labs and its parent company Meta. Meta’s losses on Reality Labs amounted to $13.7 billion, which is $3.5 billion more than in 2021, when this relatively young company had an annual loss of $10.2 billion.
Even 2020, the year when Reality Labs was founded, wasn’t something to be proud of. That year, Meta lost $6.6 billion on Reality Labs. That is over $30 billion in total since Reality Labs appeared on the VR scene.
ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, has found its place in the mainstream, counting millions of users worldwide. Most of them quickly realized the limitations of this model, and that’s why they expect the next version, the GPT-4, to be flawless. To prevent possible disappointment, we talked with the Acting Director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Dubravko Ćulibrk, about what we can actually expect – more precisely, speculate – about the future model.
The startup scene of the Western Balkans may be small, but it is characterized by diversity, motivation and persistence, judging by the recently completed NINJA accelerator program, organized by the Digital Serbia Initiative. This program has shown on the micro level within which industries startups operate in Serbia, what are their most common challenges and which form of support is most important to them.
Skilled gamers are nowadays looking to either find new play-to-earn (P2E) games or polish their skills to earn more in their current favorite. P2E games are based on blockchain technology, and they reward gamers in digital cash or non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for overcoming game-specific challenges. While the biggest boom in P2E occurred during the Covid-19 lockdowns, experts predict that 2023 will see another leg higher for these types of games. While blockchain gaming certainly has a bright future, read about more on this topic here; not all P2E games are worth your attention. Below we take a look at the ten best P2E games you should play in 2023.

Sharding is a way networks- in this case, blockchains- can scale. It’s one of several well-known methods of database partitioning utilized with the aim of increasing scalability. With sharding implemented within the ecosystem, the entire network can process more transactions and support more users.
If Ethereum, for example, adopts sharding, this blockchain network would be split into multiple pieces, better known as shards, and stored in different places in the ecosystem. Still, it’s worth noting that this data portioning method only works when applied to a single database with a large dataset, making it an ideal solution for blockchain scalability issues.
Still, this is a beautifully designed system because now that a blockchain can be divided into smaller networks that, in a way, operate on their own, we don’t have to waste energy on creating excessive data. Furthermore, sharding ensures that shards depend on each other, as they only store fragments of data that don’t mean anything unless it’s piled with all the other data bits and pieces from the blockchain.
Cryptojacking is a cyber crime that involves getting unauthorized access to a victim’s device and exploiting its resources for crypto mining. The device in question can be anything from a mobile phone to a PC or server, and unlike other cyber attack types, cryptojacking can be considered “neutral.”
Why neutral?
Well, cryptojacking victims rarely suffer the consequences of a regular cyber attack. It isn’t in their attackers’ interest to lock the device, flood it with spam, or steal the victims’ data. Instead, they want it to perform as best as possible, as they rely on its computing resources to mine crypto.
Adobe clearly saw what a great impact project Shasta has had, and decided to move it to another level, rebranding it as “Adobe Podcast”. At the moment, you can only sign up to be on the waitlist for the beta version. Still, not everything is lost: Adobe has released two amazing online tools that tackle the most common (and most obvious) issues while creating a podcast episode – background noise and mic setup.
