OpenSea’s Revolutionary No-Fee ‘Pro’ Marketplace: Because Adding ‘Pro’ Makes Everything Better

OpenSea is one of the leading NFT marketplaces and a pioneer in the NFT collectibles sector. Anyone who ever purchased an NFT has at some point crossed paths with this prominent platform. OpenSea is a home to millions of NFTs and other digital assets, giving you access to whatever your heart desires.
However, OpenSea has seen a surge of competitors since the not-so-recent NFT boom, with one of them being Blur, an NFT marketplace for seasoned pros. And although OpenSea is still the leading one-stop shop for all your NFT needs, it aims to reaffirm its position as the industry leader by meeting the user’s needs and launching its own platform with an array of advanced features.
They named it OpenSea Pro, though.

Just like in any other industry, the NFT world is lowkey based on competition. Artists are competing for collectors’ time and money, collectors are competing amongst themselves, and the marketplaces are trying to grab the users left and right and ensure their platform is the first choice for the next NFT purchase.

This type of competitive tension arose between OpenSea and its new rival, Blur, after Blur introduced a new product to the market, taking the OG NFT enthusiasts away from the OpenSea platform and costing the platform millions.

As a result, OpenSea had to win back their customers, so they introduced changes, including a temporary fee reduction to 0% and the addition of optional gains for NFT creators.

OpenSea is undoubtedly unprepared to let go of the leading position in the NFT marketplace sector. Almost a year after OpenSea acquired Gem, an Ethereum NFT aggregator, it launched a new, no-fee marketplace featuring apparently seamless user experience and a variety of robust trading tools ‘Crypto Pros’ might need in their arsenal.

Although the talk about the ‘Pro’ version was initiated around the time of OpenSea’s acquisition of the Gem platform, this timing is an excellent demonstrator of OpenSea’s rival’s strength and the platform’s urgency to surpass Blur in every way.

About the Platform and a Sneak Peek into Its New Features

OpenSea announced the launch of OpenSea Pro on April 4th, promising a never-before-seen platform that meets all your trading needs. OpenSea Pro is now a marketplace offering more sophisticated trading tools than the standard OpenSea platform.

The standard version already has several limitations, including royalty caps imposed on creators and below-average customer service. That said, the introduction of OpenSea Pro is undoubtedly exciting to its loyal customers.

Over the past several months, the Gem team has been working tirelessly to build and refine the platform to its new form: Gem v2. Now we’re officially joining forces to unveil OpenSea Pro (previously Gem v2) – the fastest and most powerful NFT marketplace aggregator available.

OpenSea Pro is actually a Gem V2 aggregator upgrade they’ve spruced up a little and put the ‘Pro’ stamp all over it. As stated earlier, the platform was meant for pro users who require additional tools and features to execute their regular trading practices. It is now under a new name, and although it falls under OpenSea’s wings, it’s a ‘separate’ entity in terms of billing.

So, what can you expect from the new platform?

For starters, the OpenSea Pro brings the opportunity to browse deals across 170 marketplaces. It also features tools that could eliminate complexity from the user experience. Some of those tools and advantages are:

  • Live cross-marketplace charts: Being able to follow real-time data featuring the latest updates about the markets you’re interested in could be a time saver. You’ll be able to see user and collection activity across all available NFT marketplaces, displayed in real-time on your homepage.
  • Advanced orders: if you need more flexibility in terms of placing an order, OpenSea Pro has got your back. With the latest, upgraded, and rebranded version of Gem, you can upgrade your platform experience by adjusting your orders depending on the maximum item price, the number of items, and their nature.
  • Affordable service: For now, OpenSea Pro charges zero marketplace fees and aims to introduce NFT trading rewards, presumably for active platform users. So, if you’re looking for a one-stop shop that would save you money and offer decent market exposure, you might want to consider giving it a shot before it starts charging regular fees.

Speaking of the promotional period, keep in mind that OpenSea’s main platform fee is 2.5%, but the platform decided to cut it to 0% until the launch of its new platform. Now that OpenSea Pro is here, the standard OpenSea platform will go back to its usual fees. At the same time, OpenSea Pro users will get the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the no-fee policy until the promotional period is over.

But that’s not the end, for the OpenSea Pro announced their ‘Gemesis’ NFT drop to reward Gem’s early adopters.

In celebration of the launch of OpenSea Pro, the Gem team wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the community members who have supported them since the platform’s very beginning. To commemorate this journey, we’re proud to announce the ‘Gemesis’ NFT drop, a special ‘thank you’ for Gem’s early adopters. Qualified users who bought an NFT on Gem before March 31, 2023, will be able to claim a free Gemesis NFT through May 4, 2023.
